MARCH MEET - (MARCH 10TH ) - 10 AM to about 3 PM - At the Swedish
Car Factory, Santa Clara. Welcome to 2007. For those of you following
President Roger's tribulations (no that is not the name of a new Saab model but
it could be), I just clamped the CV boots on the sonett and took a test drive to
the golf course following a tranny swap. No grinding, whining, slipping,
humming, or any of those heart-warming transmission thingys that are all too
familiar to Saab owners. I am finally ready to do a drive with 50 other Saab
owners behind me with tools in their cars... President Cliff is also back in the
show with a bunch of fresh gas for 2007. While we had hoped to combine the
trionic tuning with a Meet at the same time, the tuning only occurs during the
week... Bring parts to swap, stories to share. Bring LUNCH. Be prepared to pop
your hood and view all the mods and tech upgrades other members have installed.
Have a tech session with one of the SAF experts. Take a tour of Paul's ever
changing vintage Saab collection (both inside and out).
the fotos below in order are:
- vintage in front of SAF
- the SAF backyard Saabs
- sonettV4s - at one point Paul had #1864, perhaps the last existing
sonettV4 in production left
- this is sonettII #0006 without its fiberglass. Paul is making it a race
car due to previous metal damage, otherwise it would be too rare to modify.
- this vintage racer is from Bud Clark and also sports a stroker Saab
drivetrain
- Paul checks out the new carb and breakerless ignition on Peter's 96V4.
Since the swap, Peter actually drives the car
- Past President Doug shows off his restored sonett II to Ken and me.
- all sonett IIs had stroker engines
- the rear glass is very spotless
- Paul's show sonett V4 in the lineup
- Alan's sonett V4 is just out of the shop from a fire, and took a crunch on
the bonnet parking at the meet. check out the double barrel aircleaner in the
next shot
- in addition to vintage cars, we had a showing of vintage club members
including Rallyemeister Don and Parts King Shawn
- whoops - some club members showed in "later model" Saabs
- back to the days of the radiator being against the firewall in Paul's
stroker. the next shot is a full view.
- James Dean appreciates Paul's racer.
